Classical Education

Prophetic Education – In the Old Testament, the schools of the prophets were sacred institutions where chosen individuals were taught in preparation to lead, teach, and serve God’s people. These schools emphasized spiritual preparation, scriptural understanding, and moral refinement under prophetic guidance. In the latter days, the Prophet Joseph Smith restored this divine pattern through the School of the Prophets—also called the School of the Elders—where early Church leaders were instructed in both secular and spiritual knowledge to prepare for their divine callings.

Wiser Academy seeks to carry this tradition forward by building a modern-day school of discipleship rooted in the same prophetic purpose. Like the ancient and restored schools before it, our mission is to prepare students to know God, teach truth, discern between good and evil, and live lives of holiness and service. We believe education should not only sharpen the mind but sanctify the soul, equipping a rising generation of shepherd-scholars to lead with wisdom and righteousness.

“A man is saved no faster than he gets knowledge; for if he does not get knowledge he will be brought into captivity by some evil power in the other world, as evil spirits will have more knowledge and consequently more power [than he]. Hence it needs revelation to assist us and give us knowledge of the things of God.” – Joseph Smith

Classical Education Foundation

Classical education is rooted in the study of the seven liberal arts—grammar, logic, rhetoric, arithmetic, geometry, music, and astronomy—as first taught by the ancient Greeks, refined by the Romans, and preserved through the Medieval period. It also includes the disciplined study of philosophy: moral, rational, and natural, aimed at understanding the nature of truth, virtue, and the created world. At Wiser Academy, students engage directly with the same foundational texts that shaped civilization—works studied by thinkers like Augustine, Aquinas, and Newton himself.

This tradition of learning has shaped the Western world, producing the intellectual and spiritual framework for science, law, theology, and human freedom. Classical education formed the minds of the greatest scholars and leaders in history, and its legacy continues to offer unmatched depth, clarity, and relevance. This education acts as the foundation upon which we build our understanding. Wiser Academy seeks to gather all truth into one place, knowing that all truth belongs to God. The texts studied in a classical education are among the best books we are commanded to seek out, and we strive to help students discover truth wherever it may be found.

“…receive truth, let it come from whence it may.” – Joseph Smith

Free Classical Books

All classical texts used in the curriculum are provided in PDF format and can be read directly within the study center. These works are often difficult to find in print and can be costly, but Wiser Academy makes them accessible to every student at no extra charge.

Reasoning

Wiser Academy trains students to think clearly, reason properly, and discern truth from error. Through logic and true philosophy, learners develop the mental discipline to recognize what is true, good, and eternal.

Tutoring

Few people today have studied the classical texts and fewer still truly understand them. Our tutors have studied and continue to study these texts and are therefore equipped to guide students to understanding.

Classical + Latter-day Saint

During the medieval era, Christianity and classical education were deeply intertwined, preserved and taught through the Catholic Church. But while that tradition shaped generations, Wiser Academy is the first school to bring together the depth of classical learning with the restored truths of Latter-day Saint theology. We believe that the best of human thought should be taught alongside divine revelation—and that education is most powerful when centered on eternal truths.
Our students don’t just study the scriptures, they engage deeply with the Standard Works, works like Jesus the Christ by James E. Talmage and the writings of Hugh Nibley, and current Latter-day Saint scholarship and commentary. We study apologetics to explore every side of complex issues with clarity and conviction, thus strengthening testimonies and sharpening minds. This approach prepares students not just for academic success, but to serve boldly as future missionaries, disciples, and defenders of the faith.
“Though argument does not create conviction, lack of it destroys belief” – Austin Farrer
